Creative Ceramics |
First of all I would like to introduce my work. The pottery that I make is mainly designed for home decoration. The ceramic pieces aren’t unique, however these are reduced series and each ceramic is different from the other. All the ceramic is handmade.
My technique is to roll out pieces of fireclay and than cut the forms I need to form each ceramic piece. In some cases I use the technique of extruding the clay for drawing or moulding it in order to obtain the desired texture.
The decoration process consists in the following: giving the clay the desired texture, drawings or stamping sketches on the clay as long as it is still moist. The stamps are also made by myself with the same clay. Then I give the clay the desired shape and let it dry. Normally I fill in the drawings with liquid iron oxide or white clay. The final steps are to polish the piece and to cover it with a matt earth-coloured glaze, which I put on in different thick layers in order to achieve different colour shades. In order to obtain a stronger contrast I clean very carefully the edges where the glaze cover ends.
The ceramic is fired in a gas kiln at 1220 °C. During the last 20°C the ceramic pieces are in a oxygen reduced atmosphere in order to attain the desired colour shades.
Finally, some of the ceramics are combined with pine tree wood, which I dye and varnish with different colours. That’s how I can assemble decorative and functional pieces like e.g. tables, hangers, etc. a part from plates, trays, clocks, vases, dishes, boxes and a variety of table lights and wall lights.
